Oumoonensis Bestiarius
2019
This work presents itself as an artistic dialogue about Macau. The work of Alexandre Marreiros is presented through spatial visual interpretation and surveying of the city. The body of work not only observes the existing urban scenery, where architecture becomes spatially and materially tangible, but also acknowledges its previous realities, perceptions and experiences.
By refraining from comparing or evaluating the city, the artist presents his vision of the city, its different characteristics, as well as its own convergences and dynamics, resulting from culture, history, current issues and globalization, aiming at space as its own, as a sociocultural result or as an emotional place.
This series of works entitled Oumoonensis Bestiarius, in other words the Bestiary of Macau, results from a collection and selection of drawings made in the exercise of architectural projects produced by Alexandre Marreiros. This set of works, in most cases unbuilt architecture projects, are a satirical and critical display of the regulations and instruments that the city of Macau uses.
